World Microscope Day 2024

This Saturday, April 13th 2024 is World Microscope Day!

The Quekett Microscopical Club will celebrate Microscope week with three days of meetings and workshops from April 12th to 14th. For a full list of activities, see the Quekett program webpage here.

World Microscope Day

World Microscope Day was launched in 2021 and is masterminded by Quekett member Robert Ratford.  It is intended to help promote microscopy, and the date commemorates the first use of the word “microscope” on April 13th, 1625.

Quekett Microscopical Club

The Quekett Microscopical Club is a leading organization for all who are interested in the microscope and microscopy. It has an international membership, with both amateur and professional microscopists who freely share their knowledge with beginners and new members. The Club is a registered charity and ‘learned society’ – whose stated aims are to promote the understanding and use of all aspects of the microscope.

Named after a famous Victorian microscopist, Professor John Quekett, the Club is the second oldest organization in the world dedicated to microscopy. Whilst continuing some of the traditions of their Victorian founders, the club is very much a friendly to today’s microscopists and cover all aspects of the subject ranging from the history of the microscope and slide collecting, to the latest advances in digital imaging with the microscope. Many of its members are experts in biodiversity of microscopic life and contribute to scientific knowledge of these organisms.
