Fibers Reference Collection

Microtrace maintains an extensive collection of over 3,000 natural (cellulosic and animal) and man-made (e.g., polyester, nylon, acrylic, etc.) fibers in a searchable computerized database.  The vast majority of these samples were obtained directly from their manufacturer, offering unquestionable provenance.  In addition to these pure samples, Microtrace maintains another collection consisting of over 15,000 fibers that have been colored or otherwise processed with known colorants or processing methods.  Consulting these collections has enabled our scientists to aid a variety of criminal, civil, and industrial investigations.  Small subsets of Microtrace’s fiber collection have been assembled into various reference collections available for purchase, which can be found in many of the leading forensic laboratories across the globe.

In addition, Microtrace maintains collections of the colorants (dyes and pigments), extenders, and polymers used to formulate fibers.
