Forensic Fiber Reference Collection

There is no better way to become familiar with the chemical, morphological, and optical properties of man-made fibers than by the characterization and study of a wide range of fiber types.

The Microtrace Forensic Fiber Reference Collection is tailored to suit training and casework needs of fiber sections in forensic science laboratories. Composed of 200 traceable, authenticated, synthetic fibers, the specimens span 15 different generic classes and represent a wide variety of commonly encountered features including: bicomponents, hollow fibers, dyed fibers, pigmented fibers, and those treated with optical brighteners or flame retardants. Due to an increasing trend toward globalization among fiber producers, this set includes examples of fibers typical of the production of major manufacturers world wide.

The fiber specimens are packaged in individual polyethylene bags which are conveniently organized in a 3-ring binder.  A user’s guide detailing suggested uses as well as information specific to each fiber will allow both trainee and veteran fiber examiners to benefit from this collection.
