Colorants Reference Collection

The Microtrace colorant collection is composed of over 22,000 curated pigments, dyes and shade cards organized in a searchable relational database containing source information, spectral data, and structural and chemical information.   The majority of these samples were obtained directly from the manufacturer, providing unquestionable provenance.

Colorants are ubiquitous in modern life and this reference collection has allowed our scientists to provide critical information during the analyses of many different types of materials (e.g., paints, polymers, documents, fibers, pharmaceuticals, foods, etc.) in a variety of forensic, industrial, and civil arenas.  These collections have also been instrumental in Microtrace’s completion of several federally funded research grants.
