Food Ingredients Reference Collection

Microtrace’s scientists have studied foods, and their constituent ingredients, in order to solve problems for both industrial and forensic clients.  Over decades, Microtrace has built up a large, diverse collection of food related reference materials.  While many of these items are miscellaneous compounds, the bulk of the materials are organized as mini-collections, which include starches, gums, seeds, tea leaves, spices, colorants, inorganic fillers, and adulterants.  For food manufacturing clients, these collections have been useful for the characterization of food ingredients, understanding empirically identified quality control issues, and identifying adulterants in raw materials.  In the forensic realm, they have been used to answer a variety of questions from the composition of unusual stains to the identification of stomach contents.
