Microscopical Technique for the Analysis and Comparison of Soil Traces in Forensic Investigations

Palenik, S. (2013) Microscopical Technique for the Analysis and Comparison of Soil Traces in Forensic Investigations. Russian Federal Centre of Forensic Science) .

To be presented in September, 2013.

The author has been involved with the forensic examination of soil evidence for over 40 years, employing a microscopical approach that has undergone continual change and improvement as lessons were learned from new and unusual cases that presented themselves over time. This method can be utilized for both soil comparisons and in active investigations where the purpose is to locate the source from which a particular sediment originated. This presentation describes this technique and concludes with two cases that illustrate the results that can be obtained in practice.
