Dr. Kenneth J. Smith Joins Microtrace Staff

Microtrace is proud to announce that Kenneth J. Smith, Ph.D. has joined the Microtrace staff as a Senior Research Chemist.

Prior to joining Microtrace, Dr. Smith has worked as a Senior Research Chemist and as an Application Scientist specializing in infrared and Raman spectroscopy as well as chemical problem solving. He also served as the president of the Center for Art Materials Analysis, where he provided scientific analysis in support of authentication efforts in art and conservation.

He is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Society for Applied Spectroscopy, and the Infrared and Raman Users Group.

Dr. Smith has published widely in journals such as The Microscope and the Journal of Forensic Document Examination on the topics of Infrared and Raman microspectroscopy, and the application of these techniques to aerosols, inks, watercolors, and other types of document examinations. He has also presented extensively on these and other subjects at conferences throughout the United States, including Pittsburgh Conference, Inter/Micro, the State Microscopical Society of Illinois, Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies, Southwest Association of Forensic Scientist, and various American Chemical Society meetings.

Dr. Smith received his Bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Bradley University and his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Miami University.
