Advanced Cold Case Training

From 23 to 27 February, 2026, the International Homicide Investigators Association (IHIA) presented a one week training course for law enforcement investigators entitled, “Unravelling Mysteries: Advanced Cold Case Training. The course was presented at the San Antonio Police Training Academy in San Antonio, Texas. This course provided a unique opportunity for law enforcement investigators to actively work unsolved cases, learn the most recent advances in forensics and develop new leads and forensic opportunities to solve some of their most difficult unsolved violent crimes.

Microtrace founder and senior research microscopist Skip Palenik was invited to speak, provide training, and assist with actionable advice for follow-up investigation and further case development as a trace evidence subject matter expert.

The purpose of the training was to assist detectives in developing new leads on unsolved murders and sexual assault cases.
